| The Army Band
On Monday the 16th of November 2009, first and second
classes went with our teachers, Miss Kelly, Mrs Murphy and Mr Kelly to
the Athlone Education Centre to hear the Army Band of the Western Command.
We needed two busses, a mini bus and a big bus.
We arrived at the centre and the Band were having their lunch. While we
were waiting, Mr Kelly played some music on the piano and we all sang
along. Robert and Diarmuid also played some tunes. Soon the Army Band
started to play.
The Conductor was a very nice man who explained that there were three
main sections in the band. These are, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion.
Each section played some music. The music was very exciting and they played,
The Pink Panther, The Flintstones, The Simpsons, The Bare Necessities
and a mixture of cartoon music as well as music from the Lion King.
Towards the end of the show the conductor asked us questions about the
performance. We (Robert and Molly) were first to answer and we were brought
up to conduct the band. Ross answered a question and he and Tayo did some
conducting too.
It was a lovely outing and everyone enjoyed it very much!
