Tá Seachtain na Gaeilge ar siúl faoi láthair agus táimid ag ceiliúradh gach rud Gaelach i Scoil Naomh Colmcille. Tá gach rang ag déanamh iarracht a lán Gaeilge a labhairt i rith an lae. Bíonn frása an lae againn gach lá. Seachtain na Gaeilge is currently taking place and the pupils in Scoil Naomh Colmcille are playing their part to celebrate our Irish culture, language and history. We have a committee of ‘Gaeilgóirí na Scoile’ who select a ‘Frása an Lae’ each day. Each class is encouraged to use these phrases throughout the day in the classroom and at lunchtime. Labhair Gaeilge linn!! View us browsing through books and using the automated machine to borrow books during our recent trip.
First and Second Class went on a trip to the library yesterday. When we went in, the librarian showed us a selection of fact and fiction books. After that, we got to browse through the books in the children's section. Some people used their library cards to borrow books. By Hugh O'Brien.
Did you Know? by Alannah Lydon. Did you know that joining the library is FREE!! You can borrow up to 12 books for three weeks. You can also borrow DVDs, CDs and games. We think the library is a very interesting place to visit! Enjoy these photos of our trip. First Class children have become eager 'bookworms' during the past few weeks in preparation for 'World Book Day'. We participated with other classes in our school in Offaly Library's 'Read Anything Anytime Anywhere' programme and engaged in DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time each day.
Last Friday we celebrated 'World Book Day' in our classroom. In Maths we wrote number stories which we shared with our friends for them to enjoy and solve! We wrote stories and practiced our storytelling skills. Once we had perfected our skills of reading with expression we entertained Junior and Senior Infants, reading our stories to them. It was time for a break then so we watched 'Storytime Online' on the 'World Book Day' website. To conclude the day we had a Rhymes and Stories Table Quiz! Miss Carroll was very impressed with our scores. We know our rhymes and stories very well! We look forward to visiting the library in Tullamore with Second Class later this week. Senior Infants used numicon when they were doing their maths today. It is a fun way of doing addition!
