We were lucky to have a visit and presentation by André Mc Quaid from Microsoft today. He spent an hour with 5th and 6th class showing them the coding activities on www.code.org which is a non-profit organisation that helps children around the world access coding. Senior Infants voted on their favourite art activity of the month. In first place they opted for the Halloween colouring competition, in second they voted for the monster and falling in final place was the skeleton.

After winning out the Offaly competition before Easter we were feeling optimistic but knew we would be playing the winners of Kilkenny, Laois and Kildare. In our first game we played against Heath N.S, the winners of the Laois competition. We got off to a great start and Michael got an early goal. BJ made some great saves early in the game which kept us in the game. Dan and Jack also scored in the first half and we were 3-0 up at half time. In the second half the defense stayed strong and we managed to win the game 4 - 0 thanks to another goal from Michael. In the second game we had to play Kildare. It started off with goals flying in at both ends. We went 2-1 up when Sam scored his first goal of the day. Jack and Michael got one each in quick succession. Jack finished off the scoring to make it 4-1 at half time. In the second half Sam scored another goal and the game finished 6-1 to Durrow. We needed at least a draw in the last game to ensure we qualify for the Leinster finals. The game started off and Michael continued his scoring form with a hat-trick early in the first half! Dan then scored the fourth and Jack got the fifth. Sam came up from the defense to join in the scoring and grabbed a brace of goals. We were 6-0 up at half time. Ten mins away from the Leinster finals and the nerves crept in. Kilkenny started to play better and managed to get a few goals. BJ made some great saves again and the defense was tested. The game finished 6-4 to Durrow and there were huge celebrations as we had booked a place in the Leinster finals on the 28th of April. Last month Mr. Kelly entered the school in a competition called 'A Song For '16'. 6th class and Mr. Kelly had been working on a song to commemorate the 1916 rising. They did an amazing job putting the song along with a video together for their entry. The end product was incredible and was even performed at the official Offaly commemorations. Unfortunately the song was not shortlisted for the finals in Dublin but we are still incredibly proud! Check out the video below!! Wednesday 9th March - Durrow v Edenderry
