History

As our introduction states, Scoil Naomh Colmcille, in some form or other, has played a role in the preservation of faith and folklore since the time Saint Colmcille established his church here in the 6th Century.

Laterally, as Durrow developed, pupil numbers increased apace. In recent years the school has grown to an 8 classroom school with an administrative principal, 2 learning support teachers, a part-time resource teacher and 2 special needs assistants and attending maintenance staff.

Our population, currently 211, is comprised of 80% from the Durrow area and 20% from the wider parish area of Tullamore. Christian traditions and an appreciation for Irish music, culture and games influence our activities.

The school has traditionally been associated with solid academic standards and maintaining such standards in a caring and happy environment will be a goal for the future.
