Our school

The name of our school is Scoil Naomh Colmcille, Durrow. It is called after St. Colmcille who founded a monastery in Durrow in 556 a.d. The school is situated on the Esker Riada in the parish of Tullamore. The present school was built in 1945. It had three classrooms and cost £3600. It replaced the old school which was built in 1888 and cost £500.

A major extension to the present school took place in 1983/84 which cost £200,000. Four new classrooms were added and part of the old school was changed into a gym. In 2006 we extended the staffroom and added a new classroom to the main building. An all-weather play area was been laid at the back of the school and this has greatly benefited all our pupils. This year we have added two new classrooms to our school building. The school grounds are very attractive with Lime trees on both sides. We are lucky to have such a beautiful school.
