We really enjoyed our history lesson examining things that our grandparents or great grandparents might have used in their homes.
We investigated a number of items that people used long ago in their homes. Have a look at the items we examined and read what we had to say about them! Item 1: Washboard and Tub. Each group correctly guessed that this was used by people long ago for washing and scrubbing clothes. This is a Hot Water Bottle! One group guessed this correctly! Other groups thought that it might be for holding drinking water or hot water or for storing ink for ink pens. We discovered that this item is a Last which was used for making soles for shoes. We thought that it might be a shoe holder, an item used for cutting wheat, for helping shoes keep their shape or size or that it was an anchor! This item gave us the best laugh! Ciarán told us that it was a Chamber Pot. Some of us weren't sure if we should write down what we thought it was used for on our investigation sheets! We had no trouble naming this item! Callum told us about how it was heated over the fire and then used to iron the clothes. Our last item was a Butter Churn. Two groups guessed this correctly. Some groups suggested that it might be for drying clothes, for washing clothes, for making dough or used as a food mixer.
